  About The Foundation

The Clear Lake Community School Foundation, Inc., was set up to establish a fund to award scholarships to graduating seniors. At this time, we are able to award ten $1,500 Cummings Family Scholarships, two Dr. Tom and Janis Joslyn Education Fund scholarships of $1,000 each, and one $500 Masonic Scholarship, annually. Our goal is to raise enough money to make scholarships available to every graduating senior who is continuing his/her education.

We would also like to be able to support school field trips and special activities, an area which is seeing cuts because of current budget restrictions typical for Iowa schools.

The school district is finding itself in an unusual competitive situation. With open enrollment in Iowa, parents may opt to send their children to other districts. Right now, Garner, Algona, Forest City and schools in Worth county are able to award scholarships to all seniors continuing their educations through their Foundations and special funds. The Worth county scholarships are substantial, made possible through the new casino at Northwood. They have signs all over North Iowa advertising the desirability of living in Worth County communities. The scholarships and other assistance being provided to schools (school supplies for children and more) have great appeal for families deciding where in North Iowa to locate.

Those of us still in the area believe the education received in the Clear Lake Schools was of great benefit to us, our children, and now our grandchildren. We know the tradition of excellence continues and want to support it. We also know how high the cost of secondary education is today and the kind of debts students are incurring in a society that demands training beyond high school. We have faith in the kids in Clear Lake and want to insure they have every opportunity to succeed.
